Latest version:Unknown
Release date:Unknown

Visual Studio Code is an open-source code editor that runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, or in the browser at vscode.dev. It offers language services, precise navigation, integrated debuggers, a terminal, tasks and version control, with thousands of extensions in the Visual Studio Marketplace. The agent side lets you work alongside agents that understand your codebase, review their edits, and orchestrate teams of agents in parallel.

Visual Studio Code is described as the open source platform to write code by hand or out loud, run it in the terminal, check it in the browser, or delegate your backlog to an agent. Core editing covers rich language support, precise navigation and integrated debuggers for writing, debugging, testing and refactoring, while the Marketplace provides thousands of extensions. The agent side is a major theme: build alongside agents that understand your codebase, review the changes they make inside the editor, and orchestrate a team of agents working in parallel across repositories from the Agents window. Models can be chosen from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and open-weight providers, and work continues across surfaces such as GitHub Mobile and the Copilot CLI.
