Kate is described as a feature-packed text editor that makes it easier to view and edit all your text files, letting you work on many files at the same time through tabs and split views. It ships with a wide variety of plugins, including an embedded terminal for running console commands directly inside the editor, powerful search and replace plugins, and a preview plugin that shows what your Markdown, HTML or even SVG will look like. Syntax highlighting is supported for over 400 languages, with bracket matching and on-the-fly spell checking to help you navigate and proof text. On top of that come multi-cursor and multi-selection editing, configurable hotkeys, a project sidebar with smart tabs, and autocompletion for many languages through the Language Server Protocol.
